The film premiered on January 19 th 2005 , in Kuujjuaq , Quebec and attracted a very large audience. People crammed in to watch and found places to sit or stand wherever they could. Special guests were invited from each of the Nunavik ommunities, as well as journalists from all over Canada . Also in attendance were Mr. Gilles Duceppe, leader for the Bloc-Quebecois, Mr. Thomassie Aliktatuiktuk, President of the Qikiqtaani Inuit Association, and Mrs. Sheila Watt-Cloutier , Chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Conference. The film made a strong impact on all people, young, old, white or Inuk. Mr. Guy Fradette, Director of the film, who attended the premiere, received many positive comments from a number of people. As the film unfolded, we were pleased to hear people laughing, crying, and applauding throughout the presentation. A vast display of emotion filled the air as the story was finally understood. A young woman from Inukjuaq said she really enjoyed the movie and although being Inuk, she never realized to what extent the dog slaughter had affected and even devastated the Inuit in Nunavik. Thanks to this film, she now understands. She then wished her mother could have been there to see it. The production “Echo of the last Howl” was a long and demanding process for the Taqramiut Production staff. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire production crew, administrative support, participants, the northern villages of Puvirnituq and Kangirsujuaq and Makivik Corporation. Mr. Claude Grenier , Director General for Taqramiut Nipingat Inc. and Executive Producer for Echo of the Last Howl says; “There are so many stories to be told by Inuit and Echo of the Last Howl is just the beginning”.
